After overcoming doubts and driven by the desire to honor her late mother, Jenni Rivera, singer Jacqie Rivera is determined to continue her journey in music.

Born in California, Jacquelin Melina Campos, known professionally as Jacqie Rivera, grew up immersed in the world of music from childhood. She undeniably inherited her mother’s talent and today stands out as one of the most promising emerging artists on the current scene. Jacqie has carved out her own path in music by blending a variety of sounds that reflect her Mexican-American roots, creating what she calls “Fusion Music.”

The artist is preparing her second album, titled “Corazón Desnudo,” a project that finds her more vulnerable than ever before.

“When I launched my career as a singer, it was mainly because I didn’t want to be left wondering ‘what if.’ I discovered that I really loved writing and expressing myself through music. Even though I’m completely in love with my first album because it’s my baby, on this one I opened up more. I was more vulnerable and wanted to focus more on songwriting. I’m trusting my creativity more, and I’m very proud of that,” she says.

The project, which follows her debut album “En Otra Vida” (2025) and is set for release in September, will feature four songs written by Rivera herself and even a duet with her mother. The song, “If I Ain’t Got You,” was originally performed by the pair onstage when Jacqie, now 36, was just a teenager. The audio from that live performance was used to preserve and feature the voice of the late Diva de la Banda.

According to Jacqie, her mother was the first person to believe in her talent. “She was the first person who believed in me. Since I was little, she always told me I could sing, that I shouldn’t be afraid or doubt myself. When I decided to pursue music and start recording, I did it to honor the gift God gave me, but also because my mom saw something in me,” she explains.

The themes explored on “Corazón Desnudo” center around vulnerability. Jacqie even reveals that the album cover will depict her with her chest open and her heart in her hand.

Although she comes from a dynasty of regional Mexican music singers, the artist describes herself as a rock music lover and wants to forge her own path while honoring her family’s legacy.

“We’re living in a time when musical fusion is more accepted. When my mom was a singer, you stayed in your genre, in your little box, and that was it. I’m not moving away from regional Mexican music, but I feel that people respond to what you give them authentically. Even though I respect regional Mexican music and draw inspiration from it, I don’t find myself in that genre. I’m very much a rock girl,” she says.

Jacqie Rivera cites Mexican band Maná, Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira, and American star Gwen Stefani, lead singer of the California band No Doubt, among her main influences. She also admits that following her own artistic vision has been challenging.

“It was difficult because a lot of people wanted to place me in my mother’s shoes. But I’m not that person. I still want to honor the fact that she paved the way, but it’s very important for me to offer something that comes from me, not simply follow in my family’s footsteps. Jenni is Jenni. No one will ever be like her. I want to honor her, but I don’t want to imitate her,” she says.

However, Jacqie Rivera, who released her first songs as independent singles in 2020, hopes to record a mariachi album later in her career, once she has fully established her musical identity.

The mother of four, who began singing in a church choir and practices the Christian faith, also includes inspirational songs on the album. However, she prefers to avoid lyrics associated with any specific religion in order to reach a broader audience.

To further develop her artistry, the singer-songwriter is taking guitar lessons using an instrument her mother gave her when she was 16 years old. Due to life circumstances, she did not begin learning to play until 2026.

Among her other interests, Jacqie Rivera enjoys hiking, painting, and spending time with her children.

Nacida en California, Jacquelin Melina Campos, conocida profesionalmente como Jacqie Rivera, creció inmersa en el mundo de la música desde su infancia. Indiscutiblemente heredó el talento de su madre y hoy destaca como una de las artistas emergentes más prometedoras en la escena actual. Jacqie ha trazado su propio camino en la música fusionando una variedad de sonidos que reflejan sus raíces mexicoestadounidenses, creando así lo que ella denomina “Música Fusión”.

La artista prepara su segundo álbum, que llevará como título “Corazón Desnudo”, pues se está dejando ver más vulnerable que nunca.

“Cuando yo me lancé como cantante, era más para no quedarme con las dudas. Vi que me gustó mucho poder escribir, poder expresarme por medio de la música. Aunque estoy completamente enamorada del primer álbum, porque es mi bebé, en este siento que me abrí más. Fui más vulnerable, quise trabajar más en escribir canciones. Estoy confiando más en mi creatividad y estoy muy orgullosa”, afirma.

En este proyecto, el sucesor de su álbum debut, “En Otra Vida” (2025), que estará en el mercado en el mes de septiembre, incluirá cuatro temas de su autoría e incluso tendrá un dueto con su mamá. Se trata de “If I Ain’t Got You”, una canción que cantaron juntas en el escenario cuando Jacqie, que hoy tiene 36 años, era apenas una adolescente. Precisamente es el audio de esa interpretación en vivo el que se utilizó para rescatar la voz de la Diva de la Banda.

Según Jacqie, fue su madre la primera persona en creer en su talento. “Ella fue la primera que creyó en mí. Desde chiquita, ella me decía que yo podía cantar, que no tuviera temor y no sintiera dudas. Cuando decidí lanzarme y empezar a grabar, lo hice para honrar el don que Dios me ha puesto, pero también el hecho de que mi mamá vio algo en mí”, indica.

La temática de “Corazón Desnudo” explora la vulnerabilidad, e incluso Jacqie describe que en la imagen de portada se le verá con el pecho abierto y el corazón en la mano.

Aunque proviene de una dinastía de cantantes de música regional mexicana, la artista se describe como amante del rock y quiere seguir su propio camino, a la vez que honra el legado de su famosa familia.

“Estamos en un tiempo en el que la fusión es mejor recibida. Cuando mi mamá era cantante, estabas en tu género, en tu cajita, y ahí te quedabas. No me estoy alejando de la música regional, pero siento que la gente recibe lo que tú das auténticamente. Y aunque respeto la música regional, y tengo inspiración de ella, no me encuentro en la música regional. Yo soy bien rockera”, dice.

Jacqie Rivera nombra entre sus principales influencias a la banda mexicana Maná, la cantautora colombiana Shakira y la estrella estadounidense Gwen Stefani, vocalista de la banda californiana No Doubt. Confiesa, además, por qué fue un reto seguir su propia visión artística.

“Fue difícil porque mucha gente me quiso poner en el lugar de mi mamá. Pero yo no soy esa persona. Todavía quiero honrar el hecho de que ella sí abrió un camino, pero es bien importante para mí poder dar algo que viene de mí, no solamente seguir los pasos de mi familia. Jenni es Jenni. Nadie va a ser como ella. Quiero honrarla, pero no quiero imitarla”, asegura.

Sin embargo, Jacqie Rivera, que lanzó sus primeras canciones en el año 2020 como sencillos independientes, desea grabar un disco de mariachi más adelante en su carrera, cuando ya haya establecido su identidad musical.

La madre de cuatro, quien comenzó a cantar en un coro de la iglesia y profesa la fe cristiana, también incluye en su disco canciones inspiracionales, pero prefiere alejarse de letras que se identifiquen con una religión en específico, con el objetivo de llegar a más personas.

Para completar su formación artística, la cantautora está tomando clases de guitarra con un instrumento que le regaló su mamá a los 16 años. Por cuestiones de la vida, fue hasta el 2026 que se decidió a aprender a tocar.

Entre otros intereses, a Jacqie Rivera le encanta hacer senderismo, pintar y pasar tiempo con sus hijos.
